Three outfits as part of a Fashion Show (2022)
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the founding of FH Potsdam (and just for the fun of it), the Design Department organized a fashion show in October 2022. In the project led by Hermann Weizenegger, 15 students each created three outfits in just two and a half weeks—from concept and planning to pattern development, material selection, and final execution on time for the show.

I had a dual role: On the one hand I was co-teaching, helping with the visualization of the students’ designs, among other things. On the other hand, I was a student in the Master’s program at that time myself. As secret fashion aficionados, Hermann and I couldn’t resist creating three outfits each as well.

My project was a tribute to the artist and former professor Michael Bette (1942–2022), and a translation of his formal and chromatic language into the realm of fashion.

Since I didn’t want to simply use Michael Bette’s paintings as ‘motifs,’ the first question was how to transfer his signature shapes into three dimensions. I started with colored papers, which I cut, folded, rolled, wrapped, and interlocked.

The paper models were promising. Ultimately, I used felt, from which vectorized shapes, derived from Bette’s paintings, were cut using a laser cutter.

This project was one of the most valuable and rewarding experiences of all my years at FH Potsdam, and impressively demonstrated how much can be accomplished in a very short time.
