Commissioned double portrait I made in 2023 of a husband and wife for their golden wedding anniversary.
The two portraits were drawn life. We did two sessions together. In the first one we planned the postures, the light and the clothes, and I made pencil and charcoal sketches and took photographs of the couple.
The following days at my studio I prepared backgrounds on fiberboard with colored papers to arrange the basic shapes, the coloring and the light.
For the second live session with my two models I brought these prepared backgrounds and drew the portraits on top, using charcoal and pastel. This process took time, but my ambition was to really catch something from the people’s personality, some sort of spark—the eternal challenge in portraiture.
