Exhibition of students’ proposals for a mural in the entrance of Haus D
@FHP Campus, January 26 – February 8, 2026
::

This semester I taught a class titled “Walls Walls Walls” in which the 18 participants—all of them design students themselves, ranging from 1st to 7th semester—were to create concepts for a mural in the entrance to the Design faculty’s building at FH Potsdam.

The building was built in 2013 in a modernist style: white walls, grey floor, sliding glass doors, creating a cool, clean, and allegedly neutral impression. But can atmosphere ever be ‘neutral’?

In a brainstorming the class described the current impression of the building: cool, grey, modern, clean, plain, light, undefined, empty, technical. In a second brainstorming they defined what kind of atmosphere they would rather encourage in the building they spend four years studying design at: meaningful, creative, inspiring, inviting, eye-catching.

All participants created a concept for the wall, visualized by wall elevations and photo montages. Additionally they painted a 1:1 original size cut out of their mural design, so the shapes, colors, finishing, and surface were realistically displayed. One of the concepts will be realized in spring.

We are currently showing the concepts and the 1:1 paintings in an exhibition at the design faculty. The audience are invited to leave feedback and a vote on which of the concepts they would like to be realized. So if you are around, come, see, and vote.

The show is running one more week until Sunday, 8th of February, FH Potsdam, Haus D, Raum D323.
